Mitford

Mitford is a village in Northumberland on the River Wansbeck, 2 miles (3 km) west of Morpeth. The ruins of Mitford Castle, rebuilt in stone in 1166, stand above the river.

The church of St Mary Magdalene keeps its Norman south arcade and the oldest bell in the Diocese of Newcastle, cast no later than about 1150.

Thomas Besford (1833–1914)

Thomas Besford worked as a coal miner throughout his life. He was left with four young children when his wife died of smallpox.

Robert Besford and Isabella Robson

Robert Besford (1792–1844) married Isabella Robson at the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdelene, Mitford, Northumberland, on 18th April 1818.

John Besford (1789–1825)

John Besford was employed as a labourer at Cheviot Farm, Hallington. He married Isabella Wright in 1819 and died before the birth of his third child.
