Birtley

Birtley is a village in Northumberland, England southeast of Bellingham. It is about 10 miles (16 km) north of Hexham.

George Bestford (1897–1968)

George Bestford was born at Bensham, Gateshead. He served in the First World War, and later moved to Pretoria where he joined the South African Police.

Robert Besford (1752–1837)

Robert was an agricultural labourer. He had three daughters with his first wife Mary. After her death, he had two sons with his second wife Ann Goodfellow.

John Besford (1717–1788)

John was born at Snitter and became an agricultural labourer. He and his wife Mary Felton had seven children.

John Besford (1749–1816)

John Besford was born in Birtley, Northumberland. He married Margaret Forster in 1768. The couple had eight children.

George Besford (1743–1820)

George Besford was born at Countess Park, a farm two miles north of Birtley, Northumberland. He married Mary Dodd, with whom he had eight children.
