Roxburghshire

Roxburghshire is a historic county in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, in the south-east of the Scottish Borders and sharing a boundary with Northumberland. Its towns include Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh.

Mary Turnbull, who married David Besford in 1887, came from Roxburghshire farming families.

Border Reivers

The raiding families of the Anglo-Scottish border lived outside the law for some 300 years, owing allegiance to their family name rather than to either country.
