People (Northumberland)

John was born in 1826 at Eshott Heugh. He would have worked as an agricultural labourer from a very early age (5 or 6). He later worked as a coal miner, which he continued until he was at least 74 years old.

Robert was an agricultural labourer. He had three daughters with his first wife Mary. After her death, he had two sons with his second wife Ann Goodfellow.

Charles Herbert Besford was working as a butcher’s boy in Heaton when the First World War broke out. He joined the Royal Navy and remained a reservist following his return to civilian life.

Rhoda Websell married David Besford in 1920. They and their children emigrated to Australia in 1925.

William Bestford was born near Blaydon in 1862. He served in India with the Northumberland Fusiliers, then worked as a coal miner around Winlaton, and died in Newcastle in 1922.

Henry Besford, always known as Harry, went to school in Bedlington and then studied Physics, becoming a Senior Medical Physicist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

A coal miner at Ashington, Albert Edward Partland married Janet Besford in 1925. Their son, also Albert Edward, was born in 1928.

Albert Edward Partland (1928-) was the son of Janet Besford (1902–1994) and Albert Edward Partland (1901–1974).

Isabella Summers married George Robert Besford in 1937.

Mary Lyons was born in 1919 at her grandparents’ house in Milburn Road, Ashington, the daughter of Daisy Besford and William Lyons.
