People (Northumberland)

John Besford (1820–1875) was born in Stannington, Northumberland in 1820. He was run over by a train on Stannington Viaduct on 3rd August 1875.

George Robert Besford and his wife Isabella Summers emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1947. The family returned in 1949 and lived in Blyth, Northumberland.

Robert Bestford was station master at Humshaugh station until he retired in July 1928.

Agnes Jane Hewit grew up in Ashington, and married Jack Besford in 1914, supporting the family through Jack’s trade union and political activities.

William was born in 1851 at Cowpen, Blyth and worked as a coal miner. In 1877, he married Jane Temple at Morpeth Register Office. The couple had one daughter.

William Thomas Besford worked as a miner before becoming landlord of The Waterloo Hotel at Amble, Northumberland.

John David Besford trained as a cabinetmaker in Glasgow and sailed for Boston in 1907, later working as a carpenter in Ontario.

Catherine Besford worked as a general servant in a household in Bedlington. In 1903 she married Robert Gordon, a coal miner, at Gateshead Register Office.

Judith Dinning was born on 25th February 1947, the daughter of Ernest Dinning and Emily McGlen.

Matthew Wilkinson Bestford was wounded serving in the First World War. He and his family lived in Australia for six years.
