Alexander Sanderson Besford (1901–1992)
Alexander Sanderson Besford was a miner, and a member of the Salvation Army at Ashington, where he played in their brass band. He was also, like his father David Besford, a Methodist lay preacher.
Kent
Kent is the county in the south-eastern corner of England. Its coalfield lay under the Channel, part of the same field as the northern French pits around Lens and Valenciennes.
Northumberland miners moved south to work it between the wars. Thomas Besford worked at Snowdown Colliery, the deepest pit in Kent, before emigrating to Australia in 1928.

Thomas Besford was born at Chevington Crescent, Northumberland. He was a miner who first relocated with his family to Kent, and then in 1928 to Australia.

Elizabeth Mary Dixon married Alexander Sanderson Besford (1901–1992) on 4th October 1921.
