Dorothy Jane (Dora) Besford (later Hornsby) (1915–2018)
Dora Besford spent two years training to be a teacher at City of Leeds Training College, and returned to teach at Hirst North Girls School.
Jesmond
Jesmond is a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, north of the city centre and to the east of the Town Moor. Its name comes from the medieval shrine of St Mary in the valley of the Ouseburn, recorded from 1272, which drew pilgrims until the Reformation. The ruins of the chapel stand in Jesmond Dene, the wooded valley Lord Armstrong laid out and gave to the city.
Jesmond came inside Newcastle’s boundaries under the Municipal Corporations Act of 1835, and the civil parish was abolished in 1914.
George Besford (1871–1938)
George Besford started out as a shipbuilder, but went on to become a cinema manager.
Harry Hornsby (1909–1992)
Henry Charles Deamster Hornsby was a wireless engineer and amateur radio enthusiast, who served with the Royal Air Force in the Middle East.
