Ted Besford

Edward Besford (28th June 1915 - 12th July 1978) was the son of David Besford (1897–1991) and Rhoda Besford (née Websell). He was born in Northumberland, UK and moved to Australia aged 10. He went on to be an Australian rules footballer and cricketer.

Ted played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League between 1939 and 1941.

He also played cricket as a wicket-keeper, and went on to be captain of Carlton Cricket Club. He was later club Secretary until 1964, when his work commitments at the Education Department led him to step down.

Ted married Mavis Jenkins (1917-), at North Fitzroy on 13th December 1941.

They had three children, Graham, Barbara and Stephen.
