The knives have a flat, plain handle and a wide blade that narrows to a rounded tip.
Each blade is marked Besford, Stainless Steel and Sheffield England, in three lines near the handle. Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, has been the centre of cutlery making in England for centuries.
Nothing is known to link the knives to the Besford toys.
What is not known
It is not known who made or sold the knives, or when. Besford does not appear in the Hawley Sheffield Knives archive, an index of Sheffield cutlers and their trade names built from the collection at Kelham Island Museum. Please get in touch if you can help.
